Questions before you start

Straight answers — what this is, where the data comes from, and what we never ask you for.

The product
What is InvestJournal?
It's a research journal for people who buy individual stocks. You grade a company on its fundamentals, write down why you bought it, and revisit that reasoning as the story changes. It isn't a brokerage or a trading app — nothing here places an order.
Who is it for?
Self-directed investors who hold companies for years and want their own reasoning on record. If you day trade or need live quotes and charts, this is the wrong tool and you'll find better ones elsewhere.
Is it free?
Yes — everything in the app today is free to use. A paid tier is planned for more advanced features, and what you use now stays free when it arrives.
The data
Where does the financial data come from?
Fundamentals come from a professional financial-data provider. Company news comes from the companies' own press releases.
How often are prices updated?
Once a day, after the market closes — not in real time. That's deliberate: the app is built for decisions you make over quarters, not minutes. If you need live quotes, use your broker's platform alongside it.
Which stocks are covered?
Thousands of US and Canadian listings — NYSE, NASDAQ, TSX and TSX-V. If a company you follow is missing, you can ask for it to be added and it's usually available within a day or two.
Your account & privacy
Do I have to connect my brokerage account?
No. Holdings are entered manually, and the app never asks for brokerage credentials or read access to your accounts. That's a deliberate trade: a little typing in exchange for never handing your login to a third party.
Is my data private?
Your holdings, notes and valuations are private to your account. We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers, and you can delete your account and everything in it from your profile at any time.
How do I sign up?
With your Google or Apple account — there's no email-and-password option, so there's no extra password for you to manage or for us to store. Signing in takes two taps and no credit card.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes — InvestJournal is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. Everything also runs in the browser, and your data is the same account either way.
Is this investment advice?
No. InvestJournal gives you tools and data to reach your own conclusions — nothing in it is a recommendation to buy or sell anything, and no one here knows your circumstances.Disclaimer
